Why I Changed My Podcast After 200 Episodes
When I first launched this podcast, I felt like a super old dog trying to learn the cool kids’ tricks.
What microphone should I use? What is hosting software? How do you even make a thumbnail? I asked everyone for help, and honestly, that’s exactly what learning looks like.
Fast forward four years and 200-plus episodes later, and I’ve figured out the basics. I’ve finally become comfortable knowing what I’m doing each week.
Which is apparently the right time to go ahead and make a change.
Lemme be honest, change is not my love language. I know it’s part of the human experience, but changing next week sounds a little bit better than this week, right?
And even if I’m not changing, the world is. When I became an entrepreneur five years ago, it seemed like there was so much to learn. I paid a lot of people and did a lot of research to learn the basics – no AI tool to help generate a game plan (man that would have been nice).
But really I have changed along with the world, so I need to take my own advice and get comfortable being uncomfortable.
So here’s what’s new with this podcast.
First: episodes will still be weekly and will now drop on Wednesdays. A little mid-week nerdery for you.
Second: the episodes will be a bit shorter. When I began, the idea of ten-minute episodes was in stark contrast to the hour-long ones. But now, even ten minutes can feel like a lot. Plus, I’ve learned a lot about brain snacks, so I’m aiming for five minute episodes to offer the science and psychology of habits. But you get to stack your snacks. So if you are looking for a quick thought bubble or idea, you can do one episode, but you can do more if you are hungry for more snacks.
Third: we’re going to video. You’ll now find full video episodes on YouTube at Fewer Things Better. All of the previous audio episodes are already on there and we’ll continue to release audio on all the regular podcast channels. One of the things that I really like about YouTube's platform is that we can create curated playlists. So if you want to go deep on one topic, you can find previous episodes sorted there. Sleep. Focus. Energy. Habits. It’s like your own personal brain science binge queue. Stream away!
Now I can’t talk about change without giving you a dash of the brain science button behind why this is actually good.
Novelty strengthens our existing skills and it helps build new ones. It keeps our brains engaged and our thinking sharp. So this isn’t just me learning new tricks. It’s doing it together in today’s world.
This is my version of fewer things, done better. And at the end of the day, that’s why we’re all here: just to leave a little bit better than when we started.
Thanks for being on this journey with me. I hope you enjoy what’s next.
